On 19th of May, i.e. this Saturday, a festival of baroque music is going to take place in Libčice, some 12 kilometers north from Prague, Czech Republic. Among many great ensembles (mine included, hehe), there will be a performance of Magnificat in D ZWV108 by Piccolo coro & orchestra led by Marek Valášek.

I realise that this announcement comes a little too late, but maybe someone will be in Prague around this time. If that´s the case, feel free to PM me for more info. Anyway ZWV108 is probably the most recorded piece of Zelenka´s music today, so it´s perhaps not that interesting. Nonetheless, other great music can be heard there too: Bach´s Jesu meine freude, a mass by Adam Václav Michna z Otradovic, and Venetian polychoral music of Gabrielis (that´s us).

Alas, here it is. No, it´s not on period instruments, it´s not particularly historically informed, but since other recordings of the Czech republic are quite dominated by professional, period-instruments ensembles, I think it´s quite interesting and soothing actually to see our composer´s music finding its way to broader musical landscapes and communities.
