I was in the beautiful St James's Church, Picadilly, London W1 yesterday and am pleased to see that the performance of the Miserere has already been advertised in excellent detail. It is only next week so get booking!!

It should be a wonderful concert with the Zelenka down as number 3 in the programme.

My involvement with C.P.E.Bach goes back to the 1950's and the "Bach and Beyond" programme has his Magnificat as item 1. It is a work dating from the 1740's and was used as a "calling card" when he was looking for a new job. It remains as one of my favourite pieces of his music and long-preceeded the huge volume of Church music (including the borrowings from Homilius - see Carus's website) - written when he took over Hamburg music after Telemann's death in the 1760's.

I hear that 300 people were at the concert.

Unfortunately I could not get there. It would be good if someone could report how it went.

Zelenka is not new to the venue and I well remember what became an all Zelenka Concert with Reinhard Goebel and Musica Antiqua Koln providing a wonderful evening on Friday 13th June 1997. I still have the programme that had to be changed because a singer due to do a Heinichen item fell ill with a throat infection.
