    Default New Ensemble Inegal Recording

Frankly, I am shocked by Adam Viktora's latest venture.

After all the excellent work he has done.

I'm not sure what you mean. Is this a joke? Have you heard the recording? Apart from all his other good attributes, Adam Viktora is a clever musicologist in his own right. If he chooses to record twentieth-century music, we should all sit up and listen because he most likely has something to tell us.

I think Honey B is shocked that Adam Viktora, now a fairly big "name" in early music, would venture on disc into modern repertoire and, furthermore, with music that is already so very heavily represented in the catalogues.

As a "nothing after 1800" bore myself, I get a bit anxious when an early music (or period style) specialist spends time on familiar modern repertoire that districts her/him from spoiling me with more unknown gems from the Renaissance, Baroque or Classical periods!

I'm not denying Adam Viktora's artistic freedom to choose what music he performs.

It's just that I have come to identify him with as a leading early music practitioner from his many excellent recordings of baroque music (Zelenka, Brentner, Vojta, Vivaldi) with Ensemble Inégal and other ensembles (La Gambetta), recordings I enjoy immensely. And he is lauded as a Zelenka champion (quite deservedly) in this Forum. Sure, he has recorded Dvořák too.

Rest assured my post wasn't meant to be a joke Alistair. I must say I was taken aback by your reaction.

    Hello again, Honey B,

Perhaps you should have a good look at your original entry again. The fact that you have put Adam in a box marked "baroque" says more about you than about him!

Personally, in view of another discussion thread on this forum (Parallel Composers), I would like to see him record some Martinu.

    Best wishes. /Alistair

Yes, I suppose it does. I'm a bit like Osbert Parsley, except perhaps I'm more of a before-1750 bore.

Afterall, the homepage of this website does start off with: "If you are at all interested in baroque music, but haven't yet explored the music of Jan Dismas Zelenka, this site is for you."

    Keep up the good work!
